hello can anyone explain how the Spanish would go about preparing the heels on their birds.do they shape the heel from being a stag onwards gradually or would it be left till the bird is mature cut then shaped many thanks
My friend most spanish or bankiva games know days used artificial weapons either plastics aluminum, natural spur material,or turtle shell. And thats in probably 90% of the games.Reasons for that probably ,more economic value. To much care in carering for natural spurs to condition them for the context. Also half of game fowl are not streight or the right angle to conpete against ,a well made artificial spur.
Natural heel, is the ONLY permited weapon in the Spanish National Tournament held by the Andaluzan Federation of the Spanish Game Cock. It. takes a lot of dedication, real elbow grease to keep theír fowl´s natural spurs in top condition, having several "recipes" for it, that each cocker helds precious. The official length of the spur is 22 mm. and the time limit 30 minutes non stop. This is the best fowl in the world, both in resilience, stamina and gameness, despite their frail appearance. Anyhow in the Cannary Islands, part of Spanish territory, they play their fowl with postizas of 40mm, and their games are taller, heavier and broader than the penninsular ones. The main disadvantage in my observation through 45 years of cockfighting is the breakage of the natural supurs with derived blood loss, that is why of postizas and of course the extedend lenght which provides faster outcomes in the fights, lending more participants in each session.
