Hello friends when it was legal the one of hardest things for me was making sure that i had minimal feather breakage.I thought may some of you have better ideal than my self.I would tell you of things that i use to do
Most of the promblem came with sparring.In warm season i would fill a 5 gl. Bucket of water and dip birds up to necks before the spar session and every 8 min interval during the training.In cold season i just wet the wings and the tail .This help some what, but didnot solve the problem completely. I hope some of you have some better ideas.
That is the worst thing you can do to damage your bird's feathers. Never wet the wings. That is a big "NO NO". Wet the legs and neck only to avoid damage to wings. Never wet the bird if you only spar for 5 minutes to encourage them. If heavy spar then wet the bird good but never the wings. Once the wings is wet bird can not fly. Good luck
I am here at work.Any time we enter the packinging floor were the sugar pakages are being packed,by machines and robots we have to were this hair nets.I am one of the machanics that fixes this machines that pack the sugar.I was thinking on the hairs on the wings.still wet the wings,but tie it close to the body of the bird.But loose enough so the bird can have some balance.what do you guys think? Probably that i am crazy.
I usually keep my mouth shut. But sounds like you need help. They make cloth covers for birds. But they are not ment for sparring. I second what Hawk and Crookedtoes said. Don't wet the wings or the tail. Those are very important. Watch some YouTube videos on how to wash your birds of you have nobody around to teach you. Also they have some YouTube videos on how to replace feathers. Everyone does it a bit different. Get some plastic storage tubs and start saving wing and tail feathers. You have to just replace those. It happens. Don't focus on keeping your bird pretty. The wings put power into the kick and allow them to get higher. You have to build up the muscles in the wings when you spar. And the tail is for balance. If you are wetting down those parts or tieing them down, you are not letting your birds reach full potential. Trust me bro, everyone goes to the ring with new feathers glued onto their birds.
Thanks for speaking up Skindian is good to do it every so often.Thats how we learn from each other.May be i am trying to acomplish something that cannot be acomplish. My main focus when training is the heart muscle when it is properly condition the rest of the other muscle fall in line.I believe back then when it was legal i got out bird many times but never out trained yet.If it becomes legal again i like to see it happen to me so i can learn more from them.
My friend look at it from different prospective if the heart muscle or the mighty ticker is not in proper condition,the other muscle whant funtion properly specialy for tape that is and induring contest.Other contests less induring you could get a way from not being properly condition.I would have say any vigorous excirsize helps in conditioning the heart muscle.The hard part is to protect them from getting hurt in the process.I have accomplished all that, accept the broken wing feathers.
Skin do an that is a nice tie of the beak. Excellent job. The heart alone cannot be condition as if you run bird or train any other way, the muscles are used. The only way you can train a birds heart without involving any other muscles is closing the bird's nose and mouth where he is suffocating and releasing it to have panting which makes his heart works.
Crookedtoes you miss my point may be i didnot explain my self correctly.I give you and example. When a runner runs he is conditioning the heart muscle in returned his leg muscle are getting better oxygen and rich blood as the heart gets in better condition.This will help the leg muscle function better.The moral of what i am saying donot concentrate on legs concetrate on the heart and in return you would get every thing right.Imagen a power lifter works on his legs alot very strong indeed, but if he had to go in karate contest after afew minutes of kicking he would be gassping for air because his heart is not condition for such and induring sport.
