We went down to 17 as a night time low and I thought they were going to shut the state down! Cold for two days and it's gone. Highs in the upper 50s all week. It's going to rain every day so it will feel chilly, but those negative degrees y'all get; well, you can keep them. No thanks, been there done that....LEFT!
Have not lost any 2 the cold this year but it brings the predators out of my woods, lost a Bantu hen 2 an owl last night and had a coon eating with my out side cats, set my box trap and get the shot gun out tonight!
Good luck fighting old man winter. He can wear you down! We've had lows in the negative teens the past week. One night with the wind chill was -25 and same is forecast for this Friday. Pens tarped 3 sides, straw on floor, feed & water late morning, and straight corn treat and water 1/2 hour before dusk. So far no fatality. Just a few untrimmed stags showing frostbitten tips on comb and wattles. They need trimmed anyway. And one 2 year old asil cock with a frostbitten foot. Thawed him out with cool water and moved in to a heated area.
Takes a lot more diligence this time of year. Good luck to you all and your fowl.
Just got is from digging out all the strings.I think God for the brake in the weather. The solar heating is melting what snow that is left around the strings after more than a foot fell yesterday.O well just another day with the birds and we are thankfull for ever one we get in this country.
