Brady made a post on another thread that got me to thinking about preventive meds. Understand, I do not tend to doctor sick chickens. I cull them. However, I do believe in preventive medication. Below are a few I use. I'd be interested to hear what others do.
Chicks: LS50 for the first seven days of life in the drinking water; I follow this by a period with no meds and then Aureomycin crumbles for seven days at 6 weeks of age. Corrid in the water to prevent cocci which I start around 8 weeks of age.
Growing fowl: Worming
Mature Fowl: Worm twice a year. Aureomycin crumbles twice a year for seven days (hens only). Sulmet twice a year.
I use a small amount of Red Cell in their water from birth to death.
Once on the ground my water contains 1/2 ounce of Clorox (8%) per gallon except when giving preventive medications.
For pen fights I give 1cc of Penicillin.
When shipping or receiving birds I give 1cc of LA200.
